David Coldwell, the Yorkshire Pennine landscape painter, was born in the spring of 1970. His paintings depict the often harsh and sometimes idyllic world of the Yorkshire Pennines; a vanishing world where isolated farms and grazing sheep survive against the elements and village centres rest quietly amongst the hills. David's paintings are available as original oils, framed limited edition prints, open ended prints.

Included in the new releases is the much sort after ‘Walking without the dog’ and ‘Drawing a Good View in the Dales’ both sold out very quickly when released as a print now available as an embellished version.

Peter Brook’s distinctive snow scenes, deserted farmhouses, derelict mills and lonely valleys are symbols of a vanishing world, well known and loved far beyond his native Yorkshire.

But Peter is far more than a regional painter, his sharp, discerning eye; idiosyncratic humour and imaginative empathy enable him to capture the essence of a landscape. He evokes the poetry of the mundane: Ordinary people, ordinary buildings and ordinary animals are given extraordinary impact by brilliant observation and distinctive artistic judgment.

RUSSELL SHERWOOD

NEW and exclusive to The Smithy, the very atmospheric photographic work of Russ Sherwood. Local Yorkshire Dales Photographer that also hand makes all his own frames.

Like most people these days I use a digital camera, a computer and editing software. The old adage ‘the camera never lies’ no longer applies! I use technology to bend reality a little, sometimes quite a lot. The aim is not to deceive the viewer but to emphasise the atmosphere of the day, and to enhance and accentuate specific components of the landscape. I call it ‘painting with pixels’.

Thanks to all the people who have visited the shop and the web site, I welcome any feed back, especially as I designed and built the web site myself. If you find any errors or things not working or have any ideas how to make it better, please contact me.

If you are making a special journey to visit the shop please telephone me before hand, I will gladly open earlier or stay open for you.
