Welcome to the Gallery. At The Smithy we try and stock local artists, or artwork local to Yorkshire and the Yorkshire Dales. We have prints and original artwork available and our range goes from traditional landscapes by the likes of Keith Melling and Graham carver to the original oils of Christina Harris, and the very atmospheric Peter Brook.

All Weathers By David Coldwell
NEW David Coldwell (Originals)
About David Coldwell      Current stock
A new featured artist at The Smithy. We are always looking for new and up coming artist. You all know I am a big Peter Brook fan but the price of his originals are now out of reach of most of us. It is hard to find an artist who invokes the same feelings and able to paint atmosphere. I am very excited by the work of our new artist David Coldwell. There is no denying that he is influenced and has the same style as Peter, but after chatting and meeting David I realise there is a lot more to his work and he has his own style. He has the background living with his family in the Colne valley of Huddersfield.

Are you bored of the traditional landscape, but want a piece of original artwork by a local artist, then Christina may be for you. A very distinctive style, commission work is available, so good I bought my daughter one as a wedding gift.

Peter Brook
About Peter Brook          Prints            Embellished Prints             Originals
Peter Brook’s distinctive snow scenes, deserted farmhouses, derelict mills and lonely valleys are symbols of a vanishing world, well known and loved far beyond his native Yorkshire.
But Peter is far more than a regional painter, his sharp, discerning eye; idiosyncratic humour and imaginative empathy enable him to capture the essence of a landscape. He evokes the poetry of the mundane: Ordinary people, ordinary buildings and ordinary animals are given extraordinary impact by brilliant observation and distinctive artistic judgment.

About Russell Sherwood         Current Stock
New and exclusive to The Smithy a new local photographer, first time he has released his work for sale. I was not a big fan of photographic work until now, very atmospheric and magical, so good I bought one myself. Even makes his own frames from local sourced wood.
